Bannock County authorizes food trucks for one-time veterans event Aug. 15
Summary
Veteran Services got approval to host up to three or four food trucks at an Aug. 15 event; legal counsel advised that county authorization is required when the county makes space available to vendors.
Danny Patrick, administrator in Veteran Services, told commissioners the department would like to permit food trucks at a previously approved Aug. 15 event at the village so participants can purchase lunch. He said vendors would bring generators and no special power would be required.
Legal counsel Jonathan Radford advised the board that if the county is "making a space available, that does need to be authorized by the board of county commissioners." Commissioners agreed the authorization could be handled that day for a one-time event, and the board authorized up to three or four food trucks. The board clarified this approval did not establish a recurring farmer's market or regular vendor use of the county lot without separate permission.
Veteran Services estimated 30 to 40 participants plus vendors for the event; staff will ensure vendors are certified and hold proper licenses as part of routine oversight.
