Staff explained that Flight Alliance of Northeastern Nevada (FANN) has previously received a county subsidy as a minimum revenue guarantee to sustain commercial service; Lander County has contributed $125,000 toward that guarantee and the county has funded $500,000 in each of the prior two years. A committee member framed the subsidy as critical to maintaining access to commercial air travel for this remote region.
"Frankly, without this funding, it's likely that commercial air service would not continue," a committee member said while describing FANN's dependence on the subsidy. Committee discussion acknowledged efforts to secure additional private support but emphasized continuing the current level of county support for the next fiscal year. The committee voted to recommend a $500,000 contribution to the Board of County Commissioners.
