Julie Davis, Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations, told the board that breakfast programs are mandated for districts with 20% or more free and reduced-price lunch and that new state funding provides free meals for all students if districts meet certain requirements; to qualify, the district must operate a school breakfast program for all schools that wish to participate. No public comments were received during the hearing on the breakfast program.
The approved list of sites includes Ada Elementary, Ada Vista Elementary, Collins Elementary, Knapp Forest Elementary, Meadow Brook Elementary, Orchard View Elementary, Pine Ridge Elementary, Thornapple Elementary, Central Woodlands, Goodwillie Environmental, Northern Trails, Central Middle, Eastern Middle, Northern Hills Middle, Central High, Eastern High, Northern High, and the Transition Center. The motion passed on a roll call vote with Ayes recorded as Michaud, DeBoer, Ninemeier, Kermode, Terryn and Fauson; there were no Nays.
Implementation details such as start dates, staffing, meal times, and budget allocations were not specified in the minutes and will be handled by district administration as the program is prepared for the 2026–2027 school year.
