The Farmington Board of Education voted on Dec. 17 to appoint Dr. David N. Turner to the vacant seat left by Mable S. Fox. Trustee Donald Walker moved the appointment, seconded by Angie F. Smith; the roll-call vote recorded five ayes and one abstention (Turner), and the motion passed.
President Terri A. Weems had reviewed legal requirements for filling the vacancy, noting the board must select an appointee by Jan. 3, 2025, or the intermediate school district will make the appointment. After the vote Dr. Turner asked that the minutes include his statement: "I intend to resign this position June 30, 2025." Board members said the timeline gives them time to plan interviews and select a trustee to fill the remainder of the original term. Following the appointment, Dr. Turner was nominated and elected Secretary by unanimous consent.
