The Covert Public Schools Board approved several personnel actions during its Jan. 12 meeting, including job postings and a hire.
The board approved posting a District Roving Substitute for the remainder of the 2025–2026 school year. That motion, made by Aaron Wittorp and supported by Dorreon Simmons Gaines, passed by roll call with five ayes and two nays (Cheryl McCray and Valerie Bury opposed).
Separately, the board approved posting for a Business Manager position after a motion by Cheryl McCray, supported by Geoffrey Rose. That motion passed 4–3, with Aaron Wittorp, Alan Smaka and Dorreon Simmons Gaines voting no.
The board also approved the employment of Corey Lee Jones as a full-time, exempt K–12 physical education teacher for the remainder of the 2025–2026 school year, contingent upon successful completion of required background checks. That hire was approved unanimously by roll call (seven ayes).
