Vital Records to add ID‑verification fee, switch shipping contract; expedited shipping jumps to $30
Summary
The Office of Vital Records described a new online certificate-ordering system expected in early January 2025 that raises the online ID verification fee to $2, adds a $7 enhanced-verification charge for customers who must talk to a person, and increases optional expedited shipping from $7 to $30 due to a contract shift to UPS.

Linda Weiniger, director of the Office of Vital Records and Statistics, said the division will roll out a new online certificate-ordering platform and with it three fee changes to reflect technology and contract terms. She said the online identity-verification fee will increase from $1.39 to $2, an enhanced verification (when a customer cannot verify online) will cost $7 and optional expedited shipping will increase from $7 to $30 because the division's new contractor uses UPS and that carrier's contract requires the higher charge.
"The $30 shipping fee is required by the contract," Weiniger said, explaining that expedited shipping is optional. A committee member asked how enhanced-ID verification would be administered; Weiniger said Tyler Technology would manage ID verification within the new application rather than department personnel. Staff said the new system is scheduled to go live in early January 2025 and that the $30 expedited shipping charge is tied to the vendor contract.
