State frames nuclear outreach as part of "Operation Gigawatt" and invites county feedback

Tracy Reese, deputy director at the Utah Office of Energy Development, told the Carbon County workshop that the state office is focused on policy, data and public education as part of a broader effort launched with Gov. Cox’s Operation Gigawatt.
"We are not regulatory. We're not engaged in economic development. We're here to provide policy, data, research, information, education," Reese said, describing the office’s role and urging residents to use the office website and forthcoming resources. Reese said the statewide program will visit all 29 counties with tailored subject‑matter experts and formats designed to answer county‑specific questions.
Reese said the outreach is meant to be "the start of a conversation," not a one‑time meeting, and asked attendees to submit questions for a statewide Q&A. The office is partnering in Carbon County with local officials and Envoy Public Labs to host a three‑part workshop series covering nuclear basics, the mining/milling lifecycle, and retirement and decommissioning. The session was recorded for later viewing and organizers announced a followup workshop on June 18 focused on mining and milling.
