Public commenter Shelley urges court to revisit salary study, says attorneys mischaracterized

During the public-comment portion of the special session, Shelley (S3) asked the court to review a recently approved salary study, saying the published pay schedule misrepresented exempt attorney pay.
Shelley said the schedule lists "my attorneys are overpaid by $22,000, which is absolutely ridiculous," and said she had requested a copy of the salary study and a meeting but had not received either. "I asked for a copy of the salary study, did not receive it... I got told they would be meeting with me yesterday. Still have not had a meeting," she told the court.
Court staff and the Chair responded that staff would meet with Shelley and review the options, and the Chair invited Shelley to come speak at the microphone for clarification. The court later discussed using a portion of the draft budget surplus to address step losses and small increases for affected employees.
Shelley's comments prompted discussion about which salary figures reflect general-fund dollars versus supplemental SB 22 funding and whether unclassified positions (such as some DA staff) were captured in the general-fund pay comparisons provided in the budget book.
