The Polk County Commissioners Court voted to adopt its proposed FY2027 budget and a projected 97% tax collection rate at the court's special session on Aug. 4.
Chair (S2) told the court the budget book reflects a 0.63 tax rate and that the commission adjusted the collection estimate to 97% after discussion of historic surpluses. "So the budget as it is presented, includes a surplus of $276,403, and it's available and can be applied towards additional compensation adjustments," the Chair said during the presentation.
The court was directed to pages in the budget book showing taxes, volunteer fire department allocations and capital-trial operating expenses. The Chair explained the new budget includes an operating line to cover anticipated capital-trial costs and overtime for prosecution and court staff.
The court called the question and approved the motion on a voice vote. The Chair said the budget and the collection-rate modification will be presented at the public hearing scheduled for adoption on 2026-08-11 at 10 a.m.
The action advances the county's budget process; commissioners and department heads were advised to confirm any precinct-level transfers for publication before the fiscal year begins.
