Family Services reports $42,275.83 unexpected grant; out-of-home placements rise to 34

Carrie Kleinschmidt, Family Services Manager, told the board that Family Services received an unexpected grant for $42,275.83 to be used for families either open with or at risk of becoming involved with Child Protection Services (CPS) or Youth Justice (YJ); Kleinschmidt noted that most grants do not allow funds to be used for Youth Justice case work.
Child Welfare Supervisor Erin Helman reported 34 youth currently in out-of-home placement, up from the prior month, with 32 cases classified as Child Protective Services and 2 as Youth Justice. Kleinschmidt said planning is under way for the annual foster-care families picnic, to be held in June in Abrams.
The board received the report; no motion was recorded to reallocate or expend the new grant during this meeting.
