Public health staff detail measles response, summer safety programs

Jaelyn Scanlan, Public Health Officer/Public Health Manager, told the Health and Human Services Board that staff will speak at a conference this week about a measles outbreak and that the department will receive a $350 donation that will be given to the Oconto County Loan Closet.
Scanlan described several scheduled and planned activities: a veterinarian clinic at Lena High School on April 11, 2026 (9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.), a medical emergency preparedness training on April 28, canceled Healthy Hearts and Minds classes due to low registration, upcoming cooking classes at Oconto Middle School and at New View Industries this summer, and reinstatement of last season’s initiatives including Safety Town, distribution of Tick Kits at county campsites, Tick Bands at local baseball fields, and Life Jacket Loaner Stations at county boat launches. She also said the Community Health Survey returned 847 completed surveys and that key informant interviews are in progress with state assistance on compiling results.
The update provides the board with operational details and near-term public-facing activities that the department expects to deliver this spring and summer.
