Council committee backs Langley Park regional service director pilot, approves sponsor amendment

The Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee on Oct. 21 voted to move CR-92-2024 favorable as amended, advancing a resolution to create a Regional Service Director pilot for Langley Park.

Sponsor Miss Fisher described the role as a community coordinator and argued the pilot would help the area prepare for development tied to the Purple Line. "The Regional Service Director would serve as the coordinator between the community, commercial interests, the government, among others to advocate, set a vision, and bring services to the Langley Park community," she said. The administration, represented by Miss Skinner, said it "takes no position" but requested that the resolution use broader countywide language rather than designate a single office to carry the responsibility. Miss Fisher offered an amendment to change the directive so it would "require the Prince George's County government to establish a pilot program" rather than assign it specifically to the Office of Community Relations; the amendment was moved, seconded and approved.

The committee recorded a favorable recommendation as amended by a 4-0 vote. Committee members said the pilot would help coordinate services and strategic development in the Langley Park/Takoma Park area; no further fiscal objections were recorded at the committee hearing. The item will proceed to the next step in the council process.
