Lake Shore board ratifies AFSCME and teachers’ tentative agreements, board says pay will be highest in district history

The Lake Shore Board of Education unanimously ratified tentative agreements with AFSCME Local 1217 and the Lake Shore Federation of Teachers (Local 1465) at its June 23 meeting, approving both motions 7-0.
Board members moved and seconded the two ratifications in separate motions. The AFSCME tentative agreement passed on a motion by Amy Thomas-August, seconded by Keneth Gulock, with a recorded vote of Yea: 7, Nay: 0. The LSFT tentative agreement passed on a motion by Amy Thomas-August, seconded by Elizabeth Munger, also recorded Yea: 7, Nay: 0. According to the superintendent’s report, the contracts include pay increases the district described as the highest in Lake Shore Public Schools’ history.
Amy Thomas-August described the teachers’ extension as “a job well done by both groups,” and President Kurt Ziegler thanked all parties for reaching agreements. The board’s actions follow the superintendent’s earlier remark that the district’s fund balance and conservative budgeting allowed the district to make these commitments.
The motions were recorded in the official meeting minutes with full roll-call votes showing unanimous approval. No amendments to the tentative agreements were recorded during the public meeting.
