Board approves 18-mill levy budget amendment expected to raise about $16.5 million

On Jan. 27, 2025 the New Buffalo Area Schools Board of Education approved a resolution amending the 2024–25 General Fund budget to reflect an 18-mill levy intended to fund routine district operations.
Business Manager Pano Arvanitis presented the amendment and said the levy would be assessed on non-principal residences and other specified property classes. "An estimated revenue generated by the levy will be $16,529,871, approximately 80% of the district’s revenues," Arvanitis said. The board approved the resolution by motion (Churchill; Vosberg) with the meeting recording all ayes.
Board members did not record additional contingencies or amendments to the resolution in the minutes. The levy and resulting budget amendment are intended to support the district’s general operations for the 2024–25 fiscal year; the full budget amendment and supporting documents were attached to the meeting packet.
