New Buffalo board hears proposal for summer college baseball league, phased field upgrades

"This would be advantageous for the community and the school as a whole," the presenters said.
Superintendent Adam Bowen presented a phased vision for the district-owned baseball field that would prioritize student benefit while leveraging private foundation donations and a potential summer league. Bowen said the district is "evaluating the feasibility of installing a turf infield while maintaining a natural grass outfield," noting that "turf significantly reduces game postponements due to weather, as its advanced drainage system ensures playability even in challenging conditions." The plan would also relocate home plate so baseball and softball could share a backstop and future amenities such as restrooms and concessions.
