Lucas parks board names John Elliott chairman and Joan Phillips vice chair

John Elliott was elected chairman of the Lucas Parks and Open Space Board at the Jan. 28 meeting after a nomination from Bill Esposito and a second from another board member. Joan Phillips was nominated and elected vice chair in the same vote; the motions carried with no opposition.
Elliott, speaking after the vote, thanked the board and described a collaborative transition from outgoing leadership. "I believe very strongly in the voice of the citizenry and and we wanna make sure and take that into account as we continue to improve the market, improve the city and make Lucas a beautiful place and a safe place to live," he said. The board signaled unanimous support and handed the gavel to the new chair. The appointments run through Dec. 31, 2025.
