Westwood Heights board elects new officers and confirms liaisons

The Westwood Heights Board of Education held officer elections during its Jan. 7 regular meeting. Superintendent Key called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. and the board moved through nominations for president, vice president, secretary and treasurer.
Tyra Coburn was nominated for president and elected after a nomination by Deborah Roberts and a second by Mr. Fykes. Mr. Fykes was elected vice president after Mr. Walker declined an initial nomination. Mr. Walker accepted the secretary role when Kim Turner was absent. Deborah Roberts was elected treasurer. The meeting record indicates the board offered Coburn the option of assuming the presidency immediately or allowing the outgoing president to finish the meeting.
In addition to officer elections, the board confirmed liaison roles for the Genesee County Association of School Board Members, with Mr. Fykes accepting a liaison appointment. The board approved its meeting agenda and other routine items during the session.
