Cedar Lake honors Patrol Commander Thomas J. Kidd at retirement ceremony

The Town of Cedar Lake formally recognized Patrol Commander Thomas J. Kidd at its Aug. 4 council meeting for his service from August 2005 to July 2026.
Chief John Grushka praised Kidd’s tenure, saying, “He’s done such a great job in the year that I’ve known him and worked with him here.” Grushka presented a plaque and the town flag to Kidd in a brief ceremony that drew multiple colleagues and council members to offer remarks.
Kidd told the council he was leaving for personal reasons and said he looked forward to his new role in Newton County. “I appreciate every single year that you guys let me be here,” he said. Council members described Kidd as a steady presence who enforced traffic laws consistently and set a positive example for younger officers.
The recognition was presented at the start of the council meeting; no formal personnel action was required at the meeting.
