City leaders recognized the Greenville Police Department's recent kids camp and heard a public comment inviting citizens to an amateur radio Field Day while taking action on a separate property acquisition after executive session.
Chief Chris Smith summarized the June kids camp, saying it drew more than 86 children and highlighting the role of officers and partner agencies. "It was a tremendous success. We had over 86 kids that showed up for the camp and I just wanna take some time to recognize some of the Greenville City Of Greenville employees that were there," he said, and he named multiple officers and support staff who helped run demonstrations, safety classes and team activities.
During public testimony, Ken Terrell of the Sibon Valley Amateur Radio Association invited the public to a 24-hour Field Day at the Audie Murphy Museum to demonstrate emergency communications and Skywarn storm-spotting capabilities. "Field day is amateur radio's biggest emergency preparedness exercise for the year," Terrell said and encouraged citizens to attend.
Following an evening executive session, council returned and authorized the purchase of a 1.109-acre easement from CNH Industrial America LLC (formerly Case Corporation) to facilitate the Redcrest Road waterline project and associated damages, approving payment of $27,000 and empowering the city manager to finalize the closing.
