Sue Dunn, superintendent of the wastewater treatment plant, told the council the plant currently is running on its spare effluent pump after a failure and needs a replacement to maintain system reliability and permit compliance. She described the pump's role conveying decanted effluent to the UV disinfection system and said the facility was built with two pumps operating one at a time with the other as a spare.
"The replacement of the failed pump [is] essential to maintain system reliability and the permit compliance," Dunn said, and she presented a total cost for the pump of $164,021. She also asked for a skid-steer mower/mulcher attachment (~$19,000) for vegetation maintenance around plant assets. Council asked whether the mower could be used by other departments and Dunn said it could.
Staff said revenues and liquid-waste transporter volumes remain steady and that the plant aims to meet TCEQ permit standards. Council did not take an immediate separate vote on funding at the meeting; Dunn's capital requests will be considered in the budget/CIP process.
