At its regular meeting, the Plevna Town Council directed staff to place a resolution on the next council agenda proposing a 5% annual increase to combined water and wastewater rates for five years rather than schedule an immediate public hearing.
Clerk/Treasurer Ashley Bondell told the council that Montana Commerce recommends the town's combined water and wastewater rate be $141.35; the town currently bills a combined $96.86. Bondell noted the council may raise rates up to 5% without holding a public meeting and said, “5% is less than $5,” when discussing the immediate magnitude of an incremental increase. Council discussion led to a decision to draft a resolution for next month that would raise rates by 5% each year for five years and return for council action.
