Several council members pressed district staff on the practical challenge of getting external programs, scholarships and hiring opportunities to students and families.
One council member said that outside organizations frequently report difficulty navigating district channels: "They said it's very difficult to navigate the school system...they're not even getting to the point of background checks. It seems almost like, how do I do it?" Staff pointed to the district partnership office as the primary entry point and named a government‑relations administrator (Shelby McGray) who can coordinate with communications and leadership.
Staff and members discussed community‑school coordinators, principal outreach, and district channels (email, social media) to push information out. Members pressed for an expectation from administration that principals and coordinators share opportunities with parents and students; staff agreed to pursue stronger coordination and follow up with partners.
The committee also raised the need to simplify business engagement and make a clear, accessible point of contact; district staff said they would return with details on how to route inquiries and a contact for businesses seeking to partner with CTE programs.
