Staff applied for grant to install Level 2 EV chargers in city parking lot

"I have applied for it in 1 of these 2 parking lots," the clerk said, adding that the program appears to pay for installation and future upkeep if the proposal is accepted.
Council discussed charger types: the Public Works Supervisor and others explained that Level 2 chargers are typically for overnight charging while Level 3 (fast chargers) provide a large charge in a short stop and are more expensive. "Level 3 would be like most Tesla superchargers," a council member said; the meeting record includes a discussion that Level 3 equipment can cost on the order of $100,000 while Level 2 installations are described as costing "a few thousand dollars."
No funding commitment was approved; staff said they would follow up if the grant is awarded and return with locations and installation details for council consideration.
