Commissioner Michael Craighead reported he completed the basic mediation training offered by Utah Dispute Resolution and said he is working on proposals to enhance mediation services used in the commission's appeals process.
Chair John Valentine added a report on a recent cabinet retreat and strategic planning focus for the coming years. Executive Director Scott Smith recognized staff: "Eric was nominated and selected as the Tax Commission's recipient of the Governor's Award of Excellence. He will be recognized, I think it's next month in a presentation held at the Governor's Mansion." Smith also noted Jeff Christiansen was selected as the commission's Manager of the Year.
Commissioner Rebecca Rockwell also offered that she will attend the Streamline Sales Tax governing board meeting on Oct. 9 in Charlotte and invited colleagues to share sales-tax issues for that forum.
