Council pledges funds for Geneva Jungle repairs; seeks volunteers for rebuild

A Keystone Heights resident urged the council to save the city’s Geneva Jungle play area and asked whether it would be restored. The council said it has committed to earmark funds for minor renovations and will seek bids and community volunteers to assist with non-professional tasks.
"I just wanna apologize and say I'm not really up to date on the issue that I wanna talk about... That's the Geneva Jungle," said Kevin, a resident speaking during public comment. He told council the playground is important to local families.
The mayor responded that the council had "agreed to earmark some money that will happen after October 1 that will look at a minor renovations of the... jungle. We are not planning to level it or anything like that," and that staff will prepare a bid package and seek volunteers for the rebuild of areas that need work.
Council and civic partners later discussed volunteer and Kiwanis support to fund flags and small items and pledged to post information about how residents can help. Council advised residents to monitor the city website for bid notices and volunteer opportunities once the scope and funding are finalized.
