The Lorain County Board of Commissioners voted March 27 to authorize the County Administrator to finalize purchase of two parcels in Vermilion (parcel nos. 01-00-012-000-010 and 01-00-021-000-005) as the preferred site for a Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility. The board authorized $25,000 in earnest money to be held by French Creek Title Agency and set a final purchase price of $1,495,000 payable to the property owner, Donal Sprenger.
County staff told commissioners the site selection process was assisted by an impartial real‑estate firm, CRESCO Group, and construction firm Shook Construction, and that preliminary work had been performed on five candidate sites before selecting the Vermilion parcels. The authorization includes a 120‑day due‑diligence period with two optional 30‑day extensions; County Administrator Perkins said the timeline will allow further technical review.
Commissioner David J. Moore said a county press release would follow within hours. The resolution directs payment from county capital improvement funds with a temporary earnest‑money draw from the commissioners' operating account to be reimbursed on receipt of note proceeds.
