The Novi Community School District Board approved an $875,000 increase to project contingency funds for the 6th Grade House renovation after demolition revealed missing structural steel and additional fire-blocking requirements, according to the structural engineer’s assessment presented to the Capital Projects Committee. The additional funds will come from the project’s owner contingency to cover multiple change orders intended to bring the building up to code and ensure roof structure integrity.
The board had been notified of the issue at its Dec. 19, 2024 meeting; trustees voted to fund the change orders at the Jan. 9 meeting by roll call (Ayes 7, Nays 0). Administration stated that following the demolition phase, the remaining contingency use is expected to be minimal as unknown conditions have now been exposed.
