Kristin Fox-Berki, Executive Director of Lorain County Children Services, thanked the commissioners and said prevention must be a community effort: "We believe every child deserves to grow up safe, supported and surrounded by people who truly care for them," she said. Chelsea Freeman, executive director of the Lorain County Children & Family Council, described planned activities and visibility efforts, including blue pinwheels outside the Administration Building and blue lighting at the old courthouse and Cascade Park falls.
The proclamation text included 2025 intake statistics from Lorain County Children Services: 5,466 reports alleging child abuse and neglect, of which 1,805 warranted further investigation. Freeman urged public participation in outreach events and noted a family-friendly "Ensure They Shine" event scheduled for April 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at North Rec Ice Arena in Elyria and a nationwide "Blue Sunday" observance on April 26.
