The San Mateo County Board of Education voted Oct. 8 to form an ad hoc San Mateo County Community College District (SMCCCD) Joint Meeting Planning Subcommittee to develop an agenda and coordinate a future joint meeting.
Board Member Chelsea Bonini said the Subcommittee would conduct preliminary brainstorming with SMCCCD representatives and identify invitees and topics. Members Bonini, Edith Arias and Beverly Gerard volunteered to serve; the motion to form the Subcommittee was moved by Board Member Patricia Love and seconded by Board Member Beverly Gerard and passed unanimously.
Potential items for the joint meeting listed by trustees include Project Change, the Middle College program, career technical education and apprenticeships, and collaboration around adult education. Board Member Mike O’Neill also recommended addressing challenges in jail-based education and GED programs, citing a recent grand jury report.
