Finance staff told the commission there are 11 nonprofit funding applications for 2027 totaling $487,050 and that staff will reach back out to applicants in early September after preliminary budget numbers are available.
"We have 11 applications this year for the 2027 funding request. That total $487,000 — I'm sorry — $487,050," Amy said while introducing the nonprofit funding review. Commissioners invited applicants to speak.
Eric Ortness, representing the Greater Madison Area Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber is requesting $105,000 for 2027 and described a plan to attract events, conferences and tournaments to increase sales tax revenue. "We're requesting a 105,000 for 2027," Ortness said, summarizing prior funding levels and the chamber’s focus.
Brooke Rolog, executive director of the Madison Area Development Corporation, described industrial park expansion, upcoming plats and land sales that she said would increase property tax revenue and jobs. Mark Even of the senior citizen center requested $15,000 for 2027, described building improvements completed this year and said the center’s next priority is an electronic sign to promote programming.
Amy said preliminary budget numbers will be available toward the end of August and staff will contact nonprofit applicants in early September with follow-up. Commissioners did not make funding decisions at the meeting; the requests will be considered as part of the broader 2027 budget process.
