The Markesan Common Council met Feb. 10, 2026, and approved a series of unanimous actions affecting personnel, equipment and capital projects. Mayor Slate called the meeting to order; by roll call the council recorded all alderpersons present and carried motions on items including pay changes, a personnel hire, a bank loan and park construction approvals.
Council members voted 6-0 to raise the crossing guard wage to $12.00 per hour and to hire Jamie Meilahn as Part-Time Deputy Clerk-Treasurer/Police Clerk at $19.00 per hour, effective Feb. 16. The council also accepted Horicon Bank's loan bid of $125,000 at 3.99% to fund a fire truck, repair a fire station approach and purchase a police vehicle. The council approved proceeding with plans for a four-season, 88-foot building at Soldier's & Sailor's Park and granted a Temporary Class B license for the Markesan SnoDrifters' car show May 17, 2026. All motions were recorded as carried by 6-0 roll call votes.
