Plevna officials flag 16% water loss as meters are replaced and inspections scheduled

Plevna's Water/Wastewater Operator, Sam Thielen, told the council the town recorded a 16% water loss in the most recent month and plans to install new meters this month to obtain more accurate usage readings. Sam said he expects meter replacements to reduce unaccounted-for water once installed.
Sam also reported that periodic Midco tank inspections are due this year on the town's schedule: inspections are required every five years and Midco had indicated they would contact the town to arrange a summer appointment but had not yet done so. In addition, Sam said Chad Thompson will visit at the end of the month to begin GSI mapping for the town's system.
Clerk Bondell raised water rates as a topic for future deliberation, saying that if rates must be raised, it should be decided at this time of year; Councilwoman Gray asked her to check state guidance on recommended pricing before the next meeting. The minutes do not record any vote to change rates at this meeting.
