The New Buffalo Area Schools Board of Education approved a Frederick S. Upton Foundation grant of $13,500 to support mapping of plant and tree biodiversity on two district-owned parcels. The grant is intended to support land management planning, educational opportunities and community recreation.
Jennifer Summers moved to accept the grant and Denise Churchill seconded; the action passed unanimously. The board recorded the purpose of the funding as biodiversity mapping to inform land-management and teaching initiatives and to promote community use of the parcels.
Board members did not attach additional conditions to the grant in the meeting record; staff will proceed with grant acceptance and project planning as outlined in the attached report referenced during the meeting.
