The Lucas City Council accepted nominations for the 2025 Service Tree Awards and moved to recognize two longtime community servants: Chief Ron Grotty (nominated for his long career and training emphasis in the fire department) and Kathleen Peele (nominated for sustained volunteer service on boards and as mayor pro tem).
Councilmember Tim Johnson (S5) nominated Chief Ron Grotty, praising his decades of service and leadership: "He was one of the pioneering firefighters for the city of Lucas," Johnson said, citing Grotty's role in equipment purchases, station upgrades and EMS negotiations. Ryan Stubblefield (S11) nominated Kathleen Peele and outlined her long record of volunteer service dating back to 2003, including Parks Board service, Board of Adjustments, and two city charter committees.
Council moved, seconded and voted to nominate both individuals as Service Tree recipients for 2025. The motion carried with a unanimous vote.
