Regional projects to boost roll-off volumes; Adams County Landfill processes up to 1,400 tons during bypass events

Committee members were informed that a planned 7- to 8-mile solar farm and wind-turbine project on the Central Ferry hillside in Garfield County will drive a substantial influx of commercial roll-off waste to Whitman County Landfill over the next two to three years owing to an existing county-to-county flow control agreement.
Guest speaker Dan provided an overview of Adams County Landfill near Washtucna, stating the facility currently processes between 800 and 1,000 tons of regional garbage daily and spikes to roughly 1,400 tons during bypass events tied to the Spokane waste-to-energy facility. Dan said the landfill is securing long-term water rights for 2027 and is developing plans for future landfill-gas extraction projects.
