Vernal hires communications coordinator, accepted $200,000 rural grant and joins Utah Main Street Recreation Atlas

City Recorder Sara Bell introduced Katie Flaniken as Vernal's new Communications Coordinator and praised her early contributions to the City's communications strategy. City Manager Quinn Bennion said staff participated in a kickoff meeting for the Utah Main Street Program Recreation Atlas; Vernal is one of three Utah cities selected and on-site tours are planned for April with public engagement in June and a final report in approximately one year.
Bennion also reported the City accepted a $200,000 Rural Opportunity Grant for the Sage Block to support redevelopment, similar to prior Cobble Rock Block funding. He said staff members Keith Despain, Clint Morton and Councilmember Ed Long would attend a Community Impact Board (CIB) meeting the following morning to seek review of a prior funding decision related to street maintenance projects.
These items were presented as staff reports and did not require Council action at the Jan. 7 meeting.
