The San Mateo County Board of Education convened a retreat-style meeting on Sept. 17, 2025, at the San Mateo County Office of Education in Redwood City. Board President Hugo Torres called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m., and the board unanimously approved the agenda after a motion by Board Member Beverly Gerard and a second by Board Member Chelsea Bonini.
The retreat framework presented to the board focused on three objectives: board members’ visions of excellence, the current state of board effectiveness and collaboration, and proposed next steps. Dave Patterson guided the board through the retreat material. During the evening the board approved a 10-minute recess at 8:27 p.m.; the meeting resumed at 8:35 p.m. and later adjourned at 8:51 p.m. Board President Torres announced the next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 8, 2025.
