ZBA approves steel-grate bridge, citing H-20 rating for emergency access

The board reviewed an application to replace an existing timber bridge with a steel-grate bridge to serve three properties on Seaside Avenue. Vice Chair summarized the application and field inspections, noting the existing bridge showed movement and the new design uses wooden pilings with a concrete cap and a steel-grate surface that avoids supports in the stream bed. Drew Bennett, the applicant's engineer, reportedly said the proposed bridge would be H-20 rated and able to carry emergency vehicles.
"He said it's an h 20 rating that'll hold fire trucks and construction equipments," the Vice Chair said. Members agreed the proposed work minimized stream-bed disturbance, that the planning department's protections were adequate, and that the applicant's agreement to shift a fence slightly would reduce wetland encroachment. The board approved the NRSP with conditions including ARB review for the gate.
