ZBA allows administrative approval for Montauk beach walkway

Chair opened the session with an administrative application to construct a 4-foot wooden walkway and beach access staircase on a dune and freshwater-wetland parcel in Montauk. Planner Tyler Borsak told the board the property is on the Nappy Stretch and that the dune slope supports a short stairway; he said the house on the property had recently finished construction and a certificate of occupancy had been signed after a re-measure. "They just finished building it. They got there. We signed off on the CO after they did a little re-measure they forgot to do," Borsak said.
Member Mehring moved to allow the application to proceed administratively; the motion was seconded and members concurred. Board discussion centered on ensuring the stair placement would not interfere with public beach access and on limiting the structure to the minimum necessary footprint. The board recorded concurrence and moved to the next agenda item.
