PSC approves Mississippi Power ad valorem tax adjustment; average bill to rise about $0.82 per month

The Public Service Commission approved Mississippi Power’s annual ad valorem tax adjustment (ATA) filing at the August docket, a measure staff said reconciles taxes included in rates with taxes actually paid.
Miss Myrick explained that the proposed ATA factor will increase to 0.009927 cents per kilowatt-hour, yielding a monetary change of roughly $7.4 million and an estimated increase to a 1,000 kWh residential bill of about $0.82 per month. “Staff verified that the filing is in compliance with the approved ATA rider schedule, and staff recommends approval,” she said.
Staff attributed the increase primarily to higher tax payments in 2025 and a prior-period under-recovery, partially offset by higher forecasted sales and a decrease in a special contract discount. If adopted, the new factor is scheduled to go into effect in the first billing cycle of September.
Commissioners had no questions; the commission moved and approved the filing by voice vote, and the ATA change will be reflected on bills as scheduled pending any required administrative steps.
