Senate suspends rules, adjourns early amid forecasted inclement weather; to reconvene Feb. 2 for State of the State

Leader Johnson moved that the Senate suspend the rules to allow immediate consideration and adoption of Senate Joint Resolution 6‑16 so the body could adjourn early because of forecasted inclement weather. "Because of the inclement weather forecasted for this weekend and next week, the senate will adjourn today and not be in session next week," Johnson said, and the motion to suspend the rules and consider the resolution was approved without objection.
The resolution directs the Senate to reconvene at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, and go into joint convention at 5:45 p.m. for the governor's State of the State address. Johnson told members the schedule change is contingent on weather and that staff and legal services would be asked to work remotely as needed. The voice votes on the procedural motions were taken on the floor and the motion to adjourn carried by voice vote.
