Poulsbo council finalizes interview questions and schedule for four applicants

Mayor Ed Stern opened a special meeting July 6 to hold interviews for a vacancy on the Poulsbo City Council. City Administrator Rob Gelder told the council the process would include four interviews and that each candidate would have roughly 45 minutes, with a signal at 35 minutes and a two-minute closing.
Council members debated how to phrase and order the 11 proposed questions so answers would be comparable. One member asked to remove an abstract subpart of question 8; the council agreed by consensus to strike the portion judged too hypothetical. Administrators said candidates would receive printed copies of the final questions and be given about 15 minutes in the lobby to review them before their interview.
"So, beginning this special meeting, for conducting interviews with 4 candidates who have submitted applications for consideration for appointment," City Administrator Rob Gelder said as he outlined the schedule and logistics. The council also assigned who would read which questions and confirmed use of live microphones so the audio recording would capture answers. The council expects to reconvene at 7:30 p.m. for deliberations and an appointment announcement.
