Residents praise Vineyard Days but raise fireworks, skate-park and fire-hazard concerns

Dozens of residents used the public-comment period to praise Vineyard Days events and to thank staff and volunteers for a successful celebration, while also flagging neighborhood concerns about fireworks, carnival logistics and vegetation near houses.

Multiple speakers described Vineyard Days as a success. Cole Kelly told the council his family and grandkids enjoyed the parade and the entertainment and praised the three newly appointed RDA advisers. David Pierce, who described himself as experienced in pyrotechnics, said the fireworks show was “absolutely fabulous,” and several residents thanked the parks team.

At the same time, public commenters raised operational concerns. Daria Evans asked whether the carnival could be moved to Grove Park (which she said has restrooms and concessions) to preserve space if the skate park becomes a permanent feature. A Meadows neighborhood resident, Chad Claybaugh, asked how the city will address a large, unmowed farm field behind his house that he believes is now a fire hazard. Darlene Price praised the festival but said a painted bike lane is routinely used as a second vehicle lane and offered to help with repainting for safety.

The mayor and staff committed to follow up: staff will coordinate on carnival site planning and zoning-code attachments requested for future packets, follow up with the Meadows resident on fire-hazard mitigation, and evaluate signage or striping to improve bike-lane clarity.
