Recovery Cafe secures amended Health Care Authority funding through June 2027

Poulsbo's Recovery Cafe will continue operations with an amended agreement from the Washington State Health Care Authority, the council was told June 17. Kim Hendrickson explained the amendment totals $242,837; $110,000 will be used in the remainder of 2026 with the balance included in the 2027 budget.
Hendrickson said the award was preserved in part thanks to legislative help from Representative Tara Simmons who secured a $100,000 proviso after broader cuts. "We propose using $110,000 of this funding in 2026... the remainder will be written into our 2027 budget and spent in the first six months of 2027," Hendrickson said. She noted the fiscal year/calendar reconciliation creates some complexity for the finance office but that much of the 2026 portion is already accounted for in the current budget. Council members encouraged pursuit of county grant funds and coordination with the Suquamish Tribe as contingency strategies for future years.
