Poulsbo to pilot 200-drone Liberty Bay show on Aug. 11 as fireworks alternative

Parks & Recreation Director Jeff Osmek described a pilot Liberty Bay Drone Show scheduled for Aug. 11 as a demonstration alternative to private fireworks, which the city will ban beginning in 2027. Osmek said the demonstration will launch about 200 drones from the boardwalk, require a boardwalk closure starting in the afternoon and a short window of street closures during the launch sequence.
Osmek said the event is coordinated with the Poulsbo Rotary Club and Peninsula School District drone operators, and noted outreach to Navy and Port authorities. "We are gonna close the boardwalk... we're hoping people are gonna listen to numerous barricades... we are gonna be setting out some buoys" to keep boats away from the drone operations, he said. Council supported the pilot, discussed patriotic design themes and asked staff to pursue videography and public messaging for viewing locations.
