Public Works reported that a contractor change order to replace the originally planned fog seal with an Onyx mastic seal would improve longevity and appearance across a broad swath of neighborhood streets. The change order increases the contract by $226,774.24 and brings the revised contract total to approximately $641,125.42, staff said.
Finance and public works sought a $740,000 budget amendment from the Neighborhood Streets Reserve Fund to cover the change order, inspection, signage and other project costs; that transfer would leave an estimated reserve balance of about $660,000. Council approved both the budget amendment (BA301) and the change order. "So the revised contract amount is $641,125.42... I'm asking for 740,000 for the budget amendment," the public works presenter told council. Members praised the preservation approach and the department's efforts to maximize pavement life while noting the project is a preservation rather than a full rebuild.
