Council approves three-day temporary closure for 9th Avenue and NE Harrison for utility work

The Poulsbo City Council on July 15 approved a request from engineering to temporarily close 9th Avenue and Northeast Harrison Street to permit deep utility work that makes maintaining a travel lane infeasible. The closure will be staged so the two sites are not closed simultaneously, and access will be restored each night, engineering staff said.
Engineering staff said the closure is expected to last up to three working days, likely in early August, and will include advance reader-board signage and door-hanger notification to nearby properties. "The reader boards would go up at least one week before the start date, ideally," the project presenter told council. Councilmembers asked staff to condition approval on robust notification; staff agreed to make two-week notice a condition if council requests it, and to door-knock properties within the project limits.
The motion to approve the closure was made by Councilmember Rick Eckert and seconded from the dais; council recorded aye votes and the motion carried. Staff noted coordination requirements with emergency services, the postmaster and affected businesses and said WSDOT had approved the traffic control plan.
