City details multiple upcoming asphalt repairs, awaits engineer estimate to bid projects

The list of projects named by the Chair included restripping and repaving at Overlake Bridal, work on Butter Clamp Street, a complete redo of the Canal and Albatross intersection, and a roughly 600-foot section in front of the elementary school near the Mount Olympus and Canal Southeast interchange. The Chair also said staff identified about 20 additional smaller patch locations around town that would be included in upcoming bid packages.
Council members asked for clarification about specific locations and methods. The Chair said some sections will be ground and overlaid while other severely degraded sections will be cut out, regraded and repaved; staff found some shoulder areas where the original asphalt appeared to be only about 1 to 1.5 inches thick, which will require full removal and thicker replacement.
The Chair attributed the timing to awaiting the engineer estimate: “We’re waiting on an engineer’s estimate from SCJ Alliance to, go out to bid for that,” and added the city hopes to begin the bid process within the next week.
The next procedural step is receipt of the engineer estimate; the Chair said once that arrives staff will post bid documents and return with contract recommendations.
