Superintendent Salcedo used the superintendent's report to announce personnel and policy updates and to remind board members of reporting responsibilities.
Salcedo said the county office has hired Brandon Webber to serve as chief technology officer; Webber will join the county office after Martin Luther King Jr. weekend and is expected to start the week of Jan. 19. "We now have hired, Brandon Webber to, join us," Salcedo told the board.
Salcedo also reminded trustees about Form 700 reporting and reporting of hosted events, noting that hosted dinners or sponsored events valued at $50 or more should be disclosed on the form. On state policy, Salcedo summarized the governor's state of the state and a proposed budget and flagged a proposal to change aspects of governance at the California Department of Education, saying the details and legal implications are still being unpacked.
The superintendent asked staff to follow up with additional analysis and recommended the board pay attention as the proposed budget and governance changes move forward; there were no board votes attached to the report.
