County office to serve as authorizer for Olive Grove Charter School–Santa Barbara after state renewal

The State Board of Education renewed Olive Grove Charter School—Santa Barbara for a five-year term (July 1 through June 30, 2031) and designated the Santa Barbara County Office of Education as the charter's authorizer, county staff told trustees.
Bridget, who presented the memo and the renewal status, said the county office filed the renewal-notification paperwork to the California Department of Education just before the meeting and that the next steps include drafting a memorandum of understanding that will define roles, responsibilities and monitoring activities. "We have submitted the renewal notification paperwork to CDE just right before this board meeting," she said, and staff outlined authorizer duties: fiscal oversight, reviewing LCAPs, at least one annual site visit and a point of contact for the charter.
Bridget said the charter corporation operates four school sites and each site will be authorized independently; she told trustees the oversight fee authorized by statute is up to 1% and, based on a revised budget of about $1.4 million, the county could expect roughly $14,000 annually — "so it's pretty nominal," she said. Trustees asked about academic performance, trustee-area alignment, and the workload for authorizing; staff said the county will provide the full renewal petition and a draft MOU before the June approval deadline so the MOU can be in place by July 1.
Staff characterized the authorization as a new role for the county office and said they will bring detailed monitoring materials and a proposed MOU back to the board for review and approval.
